FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL PAM BONDI NEWS RELEASE APRIL 9, 2014 TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—This month marks the 25
th anniversary of Florida’s Seniors vs.
Crime program, a special project of the Florida Attorney General.............. “I applaud these seniors taking the initiative to help catch criminals who prey on
Florida’s senior citizens,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. “By participating in Seniors
vs. Crime, these volunteers help make Florida a safer place for people of all ages.” In 2013 alone, Seniors vs. Crime helped recover $2.7 million for senior citizens who were
victims of deceptive and unfair trade practices. The Senior Sleuths even helped resolve
a case that resulted in a $1.4 million payout for a single complainant who had allegedly
been attempting to reclaim the money for years before contacting the Seniors vs. Crime
program. Last year, Senior Sleuths assisted law enforcement officers in criminal cases that led to
at least 21 arrests.
Seniors vs. Crime provides services through 40 main offices and six branches statewide. In 2013, Seniors Sleuths assisted 5,145 Florida seniors and volunteered 34,506 manhours.
